Hi, We’re Louise and Jo. We’re two, middle-aged, mothers from the south of UK who are curious soma-nauts dreaming of an emergent, system where ALL humans working together can flourish.

Common Roots is about connecting to the communities who hand-craft this cacao for us to enjoy and work with in our culture, and it’s about finding ways to enjoy and be supported by this incredible plant medicine.

We have been playing in the Cacao space for over a decade, and we have been seeking a partner that is really truly aligned with our vision of Cacao as an everyday, nourishing and supportive drink that can teach us new ways of being in our bodies and communities.

Common Roots is not about individuals rising in and of themselves, it’s about seeing through the imbalances of extractive processes and beginning to create new ways that can restore a regenerative approach.

This is not a perfect process. There is a lot to un-learn in our colonising lineage and extractive capitalist culture. We don’t yet know all our blindspots and assumptions: but we’re willing to explore them and transform them.

What we do know is that we love Cacao, we are both soma-naut mothers who love nothing more than deepening, widening and exploring the intelligence of our bodies and its connection to Earth. Cacao is the perfect plant for somatic practice. It naturally softens, relaxes and opens our awareness of body - it whispers: take it easy, slow down, rest, nourish.

It is good medicine for whole-ing. We believe it is needed in the Western world - but not as yet another hip, cool, healing commodity for everyone to consume.

We’re not fans of a lot of the by-passing appropriation that surrounds cacao and other indigenous medicine to feed into instagram-worthy lifestyle accounts and sell wonder-experiences.

We’re hoping that everyone who drinks Common Roots is drinking to remember wholeness in ourselves and others. The common aliveness in our bones and breath - the sensations of life’s river, and all the ways we have forgotten.
